Why am i losing my hair????

I am 28 years old, not on any medications, not on anything...my hair has been thinning for quite sometime. It's to the point that I am so think, your able to see my scalp when my hair is down. I took in a baggie to my doctor FULL of hair, from the shower (i have to keep a strainer in the shower drain its so much) from washing my hair, and then more from when I brush it. He said it was alot, but that people lose hair every day. I'm not over reacting, really. My hair is sooo thin. It's longer now too, so I need to get if cut off because you can see right through my hair it's so thin. Please help. This is really bothering me. I know that stress can cause it, but to be almost bald??? Help....Why am i losing my hair????
If your hair has been thinning consistently for ';quite some time'; (as you put it), I doubt stress would be causing it. The stress level requirements for hair loss are high enough that you would probably have a breakdown if you had that much stress for more than a few months.

What I would do is go to your doctor and get tested for Thyroid level (as another person mentioned) and have your Testosterone tested. Yes, I know you're a woman, but women also have Testosterone in their bodies, and Testosterone can be metabolized into DHT (dihydrotestosterone) which can build up in the scalp and damage your hair follicles.

I'm willing to bet you've got too much DHT in your system and may need to find a natural DHT inhibitor. Good luck! Why am i losing my hair????
stress and a changes in your life. This may not seem stressing it is possible.
Your thyroid level is the very first thing that should be checked. On fairly rare occasion, women can suffer from alopecia, but otherwise, hairloss is usually symptomatic of something, and most of the time, it's thyroid related.
I would go back to your doctor and ask him to check your thyroid levels. If your levels are too high or too low it can cause hair loss. You might read about hyper- and hypothyroidism and see if you have any of the other symptoms. Many of the symptoms seem minor or unrelated and are often ignored.

If your doctor is not taking your concerns seriously, it might be time to find a new doctor. It took me three doctors before I found one that would agree to do the blood work to determine if I had a thyroid problem. It turns out that I did and now that I am on medication to control my thyroid levels I feel fine again.
You might be suffering from a type of malnutrition from either not eating enough(most likely thing) or not eating healthy enough, this causes hair loss in women. Otherwise..I don't see any mentioning of other symptoms but you could have cancer god forbid. Have a doctor run tests to see what's up
ur getting old or u have cancer....
I don't think anyone can tell you why you are losing hair, except a doctor who has given you some path.tests.

You could think of getting a 2nd opinion.
