I'm losing my hair do to knots?

My hair is about 16 inches long and it gets tangled all the time. I've tried using conditioners. But they don't seam to work. I keep my hair longer because my husband likes it that way and I can't stand having my hair to short because of the time my mom made me look like a boy and everyone in school thought I was.I'm losing my hair do to knots?
Use a leave in conditioner and keep it bound or braidedI'm losing my hair do to knots?
get this paul mitchell super skinny serum same thing happend to me but i used either dove or pantenprov and it worked
well you don't have to cut it all short just a little bit, or tie it up with a scruncie
wow, you could be me to a ';t'; though I am not losing hair, just having it break. I discovered that the wrong kind of scrunchy, a textured one, is a big culprit in breakage.

I am hearing from hairstylists that the way to go is to comb dry hair as opposed to brushing. Hard to believe it's beneficial but I have been doing this with mixed results.

I too was asked if I was a boy or a girl when my mom cut my hair short. SO embarrassing!! Most of the time I was quite girly but I think I stopped ever dressing boyish after that remark.
Go to any store and buy an anti-frizz serum....its just like putting a light oil covering over your hair...its keeps it smooth and silky.

I also have long hair...down to my waist and i use re-construction conditioner and the serum. ALSo trying straightening your hair with a straight iron...keeps hair managable.
use plenty of conditioner....

when you are combing or picking ..(I have long hair also and I prefer using a pick at first while my hair is wet)

start at the bottom of your hair and work your way up.

don't comb down from the top because you simply comb one knot into another and make it even worse.

start at the bottom and comb out the bottom knots first, this clears the way for the upper knots to come out smoother.

also apply this to dry hair that has been tangled by wind or whatever. It is much easier on your hair.
brushing often, having someone else brush it helps too! leave in conditioner, i use infusium 23,,, i think.
tie it into a bun. or use a scarf or something to contain the hair. neutrogena works pretty well.
well cut it short enought to be manageable but not so much that you look like a guy. shoulder length to about 5 inches below shoulder is good :)

Here's a win-win situation: let your husband wash your hair for you! He can sit outside of the bathtub while he washes and straightens your hair. It sounds like he loves playing with a girl's hair like I do, so I doubt he'll say no. He'll most likely work all those knots away =)
if you put it ina pony tail... stop putting it tight okie... okie! =]
Try a mid length hair style, you won't look like a guy and it will be easier to manage.
