Is there something I can take to keep from losing my hair while doing chemo treatment?

Ask the hospital if they use, or can get the cold cap system. It is proved to reduce hair loss.Is there something I can take to keep from losing my hair while doing chemo treatment?
There are more and more reports by establishment oncologists doubting the value of chemotherapy, even to the point of rejecting it outright. One of these, cancer biostatistician Dr. Ulrich Abel, of Heidelberg, Germany, issued a monograph titled Chemotherapy of Advanced Epithelial Cancer in 1990. Epithelial cancers comprise the most common forms of adenocarcinoma: lung, breast, prostate, colon, etc. After ten years as a statistician in clinical oncology, Abel became increasingly uneasy. ';A sober and unprejudiced analysis of the literature,'; he wrote, ';has rarely revealed any therapeutic success by the regimens in question in treating advanced epithelial cancer.'; While chemotherapy is being used more and more extensively, more than a million people die worldwide of these cancers annually - and a majority have received some form of chemotherapy before dying. Abel further concluded, after polling hundreds of cancer doctors, ';The personal view of many oncologists seems to be in striking contrast to communications intended for the public.'; Abel cited studies that have shown ';that many oncologists would not take chemotherapy themselves if they had cancer.'; (The Cancer Chronicles, December, 1990.)

';Even though toxic drugs often do effect a response, such as a partial or complete shrinkage of the tumor, this reduction does not prolong expected survival,'; Abel finds. ';Sometimes, in fact, the cancer returns more aggressively than before, since the chemo fosters the growth of resistant cell lines.'; Besides, the chemo has severely damaged the body's own defenses, the immune system and often the kidneys as well as the liver.

In an especially dramatic table, Dr. Abel displays the results of chemotherapy in patients with various types of cancers, as the improvement of survival rates, compared to untreated patients. This table shows:

-In colorectal cancer: No evidence survival is improved.

-Gastric cancer: No clear evidence.

-Pancreatic cancer: Study completely negative. Longer survival in control (untreated) group.

-Bladder: No clinical trial done.

-Breast cancer: No direct evidence that chemotherapy prolongs survival; its use is ';ethically questionable.';

-Ovarian cancer: No direct evidence.

-Cervix and uterus: No improved survival.

-Head and neck: No survival benefit but occasional shrinkage of tumors.

Of course, your doctors will never mention this to you.

In 1990, I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage 3-B, but I've survived. My doctors were great people, but they were limited to surgery, chemo and radiation by profitable AMA treatment policy. During the year in treatment, I started learning about alternative medicine. I'm a retired engineer, and this is what I've pieced together--our IMMUNE SYSTEMS become weakened by poor nutrition, lack of exercise and reduced oxygen. Once that happens, our body becomes vulnerable to common STRESSORS. Stressors can be environmental, like viruses, heavy metals, pesticides, food additives, electromagnetic waves or pollution. They can be internal things like emotional or job stress, or poisonous people in our lives. Aging is also a contributing factor. So this means:

WEAK IMMUNE SYSTEM + STRESSORS = DISEASE (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc.)

Our bodies have 60 trillion--yes, trillion--cells, and there are always some mutating into cancer cells, but a healthy immune system kills them before they have a chance to get a foothold in the body.

It takes a LONG time, usually, or a high level of stressors, to weaken the immune system to the point where it won't do its job, but once cancer has formed, it will generally spread rapidly.

THIS IS IMPORTANT! There are ways to BEAT cancer that are currently being used in Europe and around the world, and there are some great books on the subject. I know because I've read about 50 of them from cover to cover. Here's a list of the best ones. Some are out of print and getting hard to find--

';The Cure for All Cancers';, ISBN 0963632825

';The Cure for All Advanced Cancers';, ISBN 1890035165

';A Cancer Therapy';, ISBN 0882681052

';Oxygen Therapies';, ISBN 0962052701

';Hydrogen Peroxide--Medical Miracle';, ISBN 1885236077

';The Natural Cure for Cancer--Germanium';, ISBN 0533071410

';Killing Cancer';, ISBN 0705000966

';Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About';, ISBN 0975599518

I know of people whose cancer has 'spontaneously remitted' (WENT AWAY for no known reason) AFTER they went on programs of herbs and nutrition to restart their immune systems.

You and your family must look out for yourselves to stand a chance of being healthy. This is not a joke, and I'm not selling anything--just trying to help.

I am using the things I learned in those books right now to fight off a second infestation of cancer. I've been at it for over a year now, and think I'm going to make it. Use what works for you, and pass on your success. Best of luck.

AMA AND FDA--

The American Medical Association (AMA) and the pharmaceutical companies control medical law and the FDA in this country with heavy lobbying and a revolving door policy. WHY would they want to do this? It's about the money. In 2006, medicine (doctors, hospitals, researchers and pharmaceutical firms) received 2.1 TRILLION dollars--15% of the total earnings (GNP 13.7 trillion) in the U.S. This is astounding! It means MILLIONS of people worked the whole year just to pay the nation's medical expenses!! That's totally astounding, and just too big to care about individuals.

I doubt it or most people would do it, but that's a question for your oncologist.
Don't you think you are putting enough into your system as it is????

I'd be eating and drinking as much natural stuff as I could to beat the cancer, not putting more crap into my system!!!

You priority's are in the wrong place!!! You should be thinking about getting well and doing everything you can to beat this, why would you be concerned about your looks??? Won't matter what you look like if you're dead!
I'm sorry about the cancer, really.
If the chemo you are on has the hair loss side effect there isn't really any good treatment that will stop it. Cold caps can't be used by everyone because of the drugs and issues that go with your treatment.

If you are a female keep your hair short nothing is worse then waking up in the middle of the night thinking you are being attacked by hairly spiders only to find out it is your hair.

If you don't like the bald look which isn't really attractive get a wig now.

What ever you do ';don't stand on your head';
Do yourself a huge favour; shave your head and buy a really silly wig or a fun hat. Chemo/cancer are already stressful enough that you really shouldn't be worrying about your hair!

Focus on getting better. In the scheme of things it doesn't matter one iota what your hair (or lack of it) looks like.

(Of course that's easy for me to say, I was already severely follicley-challenged before the cancer!)

Best wishes...
i am sorry but no my mom lost all of her hair but about 4 weeks after she finished it her hair was comming back about an inch and a half long and black when it was white and thicker than before wear hats nothing to be ashamed of as for the answer above me dont stop doing the chemo my mom had stage 4 after chemo she is stage 2 doctors will drop you if they find out you are taking herbs and they do have the right you will need pain meds dont take herbs the dr will find out in blood work
While the idiot that said you have your priorities wrong, please ignore that as clearly it's coming from someone who has no clue nor has ever been through this. I can't tell from your name if you are male or female but regardless, it's a difficult adjustment, esp. for women. If male, I think it's sexy on men who sport the shaved or bald look. Did you see Jack Nicholson on the Oscars? He's doing a movie about a person with cancer so he was bald. He looked cool, but Jack usually does!

If female, do what is comfortable for you. And as my oncologist told me, if there was a magic pill out there to prevent hair loss, all of his patients would be on it, so obviously, he wasn't aware of such a thing. This is all a journey that you are going through %26amp; one of the valleys can be the hair loss %26amp; adjusting to your appearance. Just hang tough though as it could always be worse. I contacted the Amer. cancer Soc. in my area %26amp; they had a ton of hats, wigs %26amp; scarfs to choose from, a place to try them on privately %26amp; all were for free %26amp; could use as many as I wanted. This was very helpful as I waited until the last moment until I woke up one morning with a mess of matted hair on my 10th day into chemo. Finding a wig wasn't as scary as I thought either so if I can do it, you can too!! God bless %26amp; take care!
Unfortunately not.
im afarid not but u should go to a wig shop they have some really nice ones
not really. There are experimental drugs out there, and different therapies, but they only work in about 25% of those who tried them while on chemo. Suggest you talk to your oncologist about what is currently available and whether or not it is worth trying. Just to be safe, go out and purchase a nice wig and some hats.

Some chemo centers even offer free wigs and hats, check with yours.
chemotherapy is very powerful medicine and most people do lose their hair which is very traumatic. I do have some suggestions that might help prevent the lost. increasing circulation to the scalp is important if you can do headstands to or three times a day this will supply more blood to the scalp. Take your fingertips and massage the scalp daily.

A high quality multivitamin is very beneficial. An extra 1,000mg of vitamin C. Use 1,200mg of vitamin E Daily. Use olive oil for salads and cooking. Alfalfa powder should be consumed three times daily. Drink fresh carrot juice daily.

Try to eat as much fresh vegetables and fruits as possible As well as good quality proteins.

there's no guarantees but it's worth trying.

if you have any further questions please let me know.

i think wigs is the only practical solution for yourself

just stay confident, and people will think you're rocking a bald head on purpose, and you'll still stay attractive, like you're doing something ';cool';

keep your head up, and dont worry so much about hair, stay positive, you're gonna need it at this time in your life (you dont need the added stress)

hair is so miniscule in terms of life, plus it'll grow back later.

i'd rock a bald head with some cool hats.
