Could anyone tell me if my hair will grow back and how long will it take?I have lost my hair after 6 wks radiotherapy to the brain?
You should start to see downy regrowth within a monthI have lost my hair after 6 wks radiotherapy to the brain?
You will lose any hair thats within the treatment area. Most hair loss is temporary although, unfortunately, in some people it may be permanent, depending on the dose and length of treatment you have had. Sometimes hair grows back with a slightly different colour and texture, and perhaps not as thickly as before. It usually starts to grow back within 2 months of finishing treatment.
yes your hair will grow back, and it may grow back totally different to how your hair was before, but i cant say how long it will take evrybodys different.
Here are the numbers...
--At 20 Gy (Gray) of radiation, your hair will fall, but only temporarily.
-- At 40 Gy, your hair will fall and most likely never grow back.
Try and see how much dose you are planned to recieve, or ask your doctor or therapist, they should know what you should expect.
Good Luck!!!
With 6 weeks of radiation treatments, probably there will be areas of the scalp that don't grow back fully, or possibly at all. The damage to the base of the hair follicle takes time to repair, but if it's permanently damaged (usually at doses %26gt;40 Gy when given over 6 weeks) then individual follicles won't grow back.
Although the timing varies, regenerating hair follicles may take 2-3 months after radiation ends to emerge. As others have said, there may be changes in texture, curliness in those areas. Often, some areas where hair loss occurs actually got lower doses and may recover sooner, but that is dependent upon many factors including scalp dose, whether Temodar or other chemotherapy is given, radiation technique (3D versus IMRT), and individual radiation sensitivity.

I dont think you're meant too loose your hair in radiotherapy, but if you are, speak to your doctor about it, as radiotherapy is usually daily.
It will grow back, but the time it takes depends on how fast your hair grows normally.
It is different for everyone. I have a friend who's didn't start growing back until radiation treatments were complete. It came in very quickly at that point, and grew in darker and much thicker. I don't see why your hair wouldn't eventually grow back.
Mt heart goes out to you.My mum has a incurable brain tumor, she lost her hair through radiotherepy,it started to grow back after about six months although it was curly and a different colour.Be patient it will grow.Good luck.
It will pribably grow back and will probably begin to grow about two weeks after your treatment finished. It may be less think and may have a slightly different colour or return to your original colour if you are grey. It may be a different texture - curly when it was straight before or vice versa but this is less likely.
it will grow back, mine did came in darkerrwhich was good as i was going grey.hope you are soon well best wishes and good luck.
i think it'll start growing back when you've finished the treatment.
